1849

The Coffee Stand

Three Croatian immigrants set up a tent on Long Wharf, serving fresh grilled fish to merchants and sailors during the Gold Rush.

1882

The Cold Day Restaurant

After a political remark by a tax assessor, the spot earned the nickname "The Cold Day Restaurant," a moniker that stuck for decades.

1913

The Tadich Era

John Tadich dissolved partnerships and opened the definitive Tadich Grill. In 1928, the Buich family became involved, owning and running it to this day.
