Walter White with Family

My Dad is Amazing.

I didn’t realize how amazing he was until I found out we might lose him. It sounds cliché, but when you're a teenager, you take your parents for granted. You expect them to always be there, nagging you to clean your room or study harder.

My dad, Walter White, is a chemistry teacher. He's annoyingly smart—knows exactly why ice expands or why mercury is liquid at room temperature. He loves to cook breakfast because he says "chemical reactions happen all the time in cooking."

"He expects everyone to do their best, and when you don't try your hardest he doesn't cut you any slack. That's what makes him brave in his cancer battle."

He loves my mom, my newborn sister Holly, and me more than anything. He's fighting this cancer not for himself, but to stay with us. To see me graduate. To see Holly grow up.

👨‍🏫

The Educator

For years, Mr. White has shaped young minds in Albuquerque, teaching chemistry with a passion that few possess. He demands the best because he believes in potential.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

The Family Man

Despite financial struggles and working a second job, Walter puts his family first. He didn't want treatment initially because he feared leaving us with debt.

🔬

The Genius

A brilliant mind that should be celebrated. His knowledge of the physical world is vast, and he uses it to make the world make sense for his students and his son.

CRITICAL DIAGNOSIS

Stage 3A Lung Cancer

Inoperable? Only if we give up. There is a surgery—a fighting chance—but it costs far more than a teacher's salary can cover. Insurance won't pay for the best surgeons.

Every day that goes by is one less day I'll have with him. We need this operation. Now.
